Justin maintains late-career renaissance with title charge

- Neil McLeman

ROSEY'S COSY AT THE SUMMIT

JUSTIN ROSE’S Indian summer stayed hot on a glorious spring day in Georgia yesterday.

The Ryder Cup hero said last year he was enjoying a late-career renaissance after finishing joint second in The Open at Royal Troon.

Rose repeated his forecast after a sizzling opening 65 gave him the first-round lead at Augusta.

The veteran Englishman, 44, said: “Golf is not going to get easier for me in the next five, 10 years so you have to make the most of it.”

And the 2013 US Open winner did just that in round two, a steady one-under 71 giving him the early clubhouse lead on eight under.

Rose broke the record he shared with Jack Nicklaus, below, when he led after day one for the fifth time.

The previous times he topped the leaderboard, he averaged 74 in his second round — and he still has to break 70 in his 20 Fridays here.
