German vows to make Gers great again

DANNY ROHL last night rocked into Ibrox vowing to live up to Rangers’ great expectations.

Light Blues chiefs finally brought their chaotic search for Russell Martin's replacement to an end after appointing the German on a two-and-a-half year deal, having missed out Steven Gerrard and Kevin Muscat.

At 36 years old, Rohl is the club’s youngest manager since Graeme Souness in 1986.

The news has done little to appease the Gers support, who are concerned about the new mans lack of frontline experience.

Rohl comes highly rated but with just 89 games as a boss under his belt after a two-season stint at crisis-hit Sheffield Wednesday.

But he is adamant he can live up to the huge demands he'll face in Glasgow, citing similarly high expectation levels while assisting Hansi Flick’s Champions League-winning Bayern Munich side and Germany's national team.

Rohl, who started his coaching career with RB Leipzig aged just 21 after his playing career was ended prematurely by a serious knee injury, won't have to wait long for his first Gers test, with Thursday's Europa League clash against Brann in Norway looming,
