ENGLAND began their World Cup campaign in style, running in 11 tries against the United States at the Stadium of Light.

- By Rebecca Johnson

In front of a record-breaking crowd of 42,723, the world’s No.1-ranked side went ahead through Sadia Kabeya and Hannah Botterman before Erica Jarrell-Searcy responded for the USA.

After Alev Kelter was shown a yellow card for playing an opponent, Maud Muir and Ellie Kildunne scored in quick succession as England led 28-7 at the break.

In a ruthless second-half showing, the Red Roses went on to add a further seven tries as Abby Dow, Kildunne and Amy Cokayne all went over and Jess Breach and Lark Atkin-Davies ran in two tries each.

England have won 28 straight games as they extended their winning run to 21 matches against the States, who included 11 World Cup debutants in their squad, including four in the starting XV.
