Nats slammed over 'right-wing forces Saltire hijack' claim

THE SNP has been called out for its Saltire hypocrisy after John Swinney tried to reclaim the flag from “right wing” forces.

The flag has been flown on lampposts and homes in at least five council areas in scenes replicating the St George’s Cross being displayed in England — upsetting many nationalists, who often complain of the Union Flag being used to represent them as part of the UK.

The Saltire has played a major part in SNP and Scottish Government messaging for years but has now been co-opted by protestors against hotels housing asylum seekers following a social media campaign.

Threats

Aberdeenshire Council has suspended the removal of Saltires after workers faced threats and intimidation and has reported incidents to police.

Falkirk Council reported similar threats as staff removed flags. There was no planning permission, so they were deemed a safety risk.
