Machete attack as gang war ramps up

David McMillan was previously attacked inside the Edinburgh property and in recent weeks the house itself has been firebombed, while a Land Rover was torched in the driveway a few weeks ago.

The vicious assault, during which the victim is believed to have received a savage head injury, is the latest in a long line of incidents linked to a gangland feud that has enveloped much of Scotland in recent months.

The ambush follows a similar attack just days earlier in Glasgow when two men were targeted by a gang of three wielding machetes.

Mr McMillan was last night said to be in a stable condition in hospital, with police treating the attack on the 54-year-old as attempted murder.

The attack took place on Pitcairn Grove in the Greenbank area of the capital around 9pm on Thursday, with up to five men, each wearing dark overalls and balaclavas, involved.

They exited a grey Land Rover Discovery before confronting their victim — a close friend of jailed Edinburgh drugs kingpin Mark Richardson.

Detective Superintendent Paul Grainger, of Police Scotland, said: “This has been a targeted attack and we are continuing our inquiries to identify those responsible.
