'It is soul-destroying for patients who are desperate to get out of hospital'

The Scottish Tories described the findings as "soul-destroying".

Shadow health secretary Dr Sandesh Gulhane said that these “should shame every SNP minister. He went on: “Shona Robison pledged to eradicate delayed discharge over a decade ago but Scotland's bed-blocking crisis is only getting worse because of the SNP's failure to put social care packages in place.

“The nationalists have had nearly two decades to get a grip of this crisis but it has spiralled out-of-control on their watch, leaving thousands of patients stuck in hospital for up to a month.”

Dr Gulhane continued: “This devastates our NHS by blocking beds needed for critical operations or to treat A&E patients.

“It is also soul-destroying for patients who are desperate to get out of hospital.
