'Blessed' King can reduce cancer treatment in New Year

- EMILY FERGUSON

GOOD NEWS BY STICKING TO DOCTOR'S ORDERS

THE King has announced a welcome milestone in his cancer recovery, which he credits to following doctors' orders.

Charles, 77, shared his good news for Christmas, revealing his treatment can be reduced in the new year.

In an emotional video message, he urged people to keep up to date with screenings because early detection is the key to successful treatment.

He added: “Indeed, today I am able to share with you the good news that thanks to early diagnosis, effective intervention and adherence to doctors’ orders, my own schedule of cancer treatment can be reduced in the new year.

“This milestone is both a personal blessing and a testimony to the remarkable advances that have been made in cancer care in recent years.”

The monarch is understood to have responded exceptionally well to treatment and his doctors have advised his care now moves into a precautionary phase. He will be continually monitored and reviewed to protect and prioritise his continued recovery.

However, a royal source said the regularity of his treatment "will be significantly reduced" at the start of next year.

In his message, broadcast as part of this year's Stand Up to Cancer campaign, Charles admitted that being diagnosed with the disease was "overwhelming".

However, he urged everyone to attend cancer screenings, no matter how "frightening, embarrassing or uncomfortable" they may seem.

He added: "This December, as we gather to reflect on the year past, I pray that we can each pledge, as part of our resolutions for the year ahead, to play our part in helping to catch cancer early.

"Your life or the life of someone you love may depend upon it." The King has been receiving his cancer treatment as an outpatient since early February last year.

It is believed to be administered in weekly sessions at the London Clinic.

Buckingham Palace has not revealed what type of cancer he has or what treatment he is receiving.
