US President attacks net zero drive

DONALD TRUMP has called for more drilling in the North Sea as he launched a blistering attack on the UK's net zero drive under Labour and the SNP.

The US President's outspoken comments represent a direct challenge to the approach being pursued by Sir Keir Starmer and John Swinney. The Prime Minister wants to reach net zero emissions by 2050, and the Scottish Government is aiming to get Scotland there five years earlier.

Labour has vowed not to issue any new licences to explore oil and gas fields, while the Nats are tying themselves in knots by attempting to appeal to voters in Aberdeen despite an overarching policy of moving away from fossil fuels.
