Tory leader calls on PM to ditch damaging policy now

- By Ben Borland

SCOTTISH Conservative leader Russell Findlay has urged Keir Starmer to scrap his “spiteful” family farm tax.

His call comes ahead of Labour’s Party Conference next month amid warnings of an “autumn of discontent” within the industry.

Mr Findlay was at the Turriff Show, the biggest two-day agricultural event in Scotland, yesterday and the Aboyne Highland Games on Saturday, to hear from farmers and rural businesses about their concerns.

The party leader also spoke to a range of organisations, including the National Farmers Union of Scotland.

As well as the looming 20% inheritance hike on farms from April next year, concerns were raised about the SNP’s proposed Muirburn licensing scheme and lack of resources to deal with wildfires.
