Coronation Street favourite Julia Goulding on how it’s touch and go for her character in the dramatic ‘Corriedale’ special

- By Christine Smith

CORONATION Street star Julia Goulding says working with Emmerdale cast members was a dream come true. Julia is at the centre of the drama when the two ITV soaps meet for a one-off “Corriedale” special on Monday, with her character Shona Platt involved in a minibus crash.

She would not reveal whether the story marks the end of the road for Shona, or her character’s husband David. But if it does, she is happy to go out on such a high, working with Emmerdale stars such as Emma Atkins, who plays Charity Dingle, and Chris Chittell, who stars as Eric Pollard.

Julia says: “I was over the moon to be asked. I was very excited. It was absolutely brilliant working alongside Emma, as it was Chris.

“There is a scene with Ken [Barlow] and Pollard and Shona and David. It was so surreal!

“I can’t say whether these scenes were before or after the crash, but it was a real ‘pinch me’ moment.”

Of the dramatic storyline, she adds: “I can’t say if she or David survive the crash or not, but it’s safe to say Shona is in a very delicate position. They both get knocked out and it’s touch and go.

“If they are both affected, the stakes are going to be very high.

“It is going to be such a special episode.

“If Shona is lucky enough to survive the crash, I would love it if there was another Corriedale special episode at a future point.

“And I would be begging for Shona to be part of it.
