AS YOU may have spotted, Comic Relief’s traditional Friday night fundraiser is no longer billed as just Comic Relief. They now call it COMIC RELIEF: FUNNY FOR MONEY (BBC1, 7pm).

I did find this extra wording rather peculiar at first, but I think I've figured out what they’re trying to do here.

They’re trying to explain what this programme is actually for, for the benefit of those who may not have twigged.

Which is fair enough, isn’t it? Given that this year’s line-up of Comic Relief presenters includes only two actual comics, and given that one of those is Joel Dommett, a little more clarification can do no harm, can it? Particularly for viewers who fall into a younger age bracket, or who don’t tend to watch a lot of TV, or who may just be as thick as mince.
