Cheat row killer handed a life sentence

A MAN who killed his wife after she accused him of cheating has been jailed for life.

Walter Buchanan, 66, must do a minimum of 15 years for the murder before he is eligible for parole.

He attacked Darrel Buchanan, 37, at their flat in Hamilton, Lanarkshire, in February 2023. Buchanan denied murder but was convicted by a jury.

A post-mortem examination revealed that his wife suffered a "significant" compression of her neck as well as a brain injury, a rib fracture and bruising.

Yesterday at the High Court in Edinburgh, Judge Lord Cubie spoke of the pain Buchanan caused to his wife's family. He said:

"I have read from victim impact statements of the loss and suffering that you have left her relatives with. You have caused huge upset and upheaval."

Lord Cubie went on: "There is nothing that I can say or do that can deal with their loss.
