Salvage operation...Iain

- By Nicola Methven

THE Great British Bake Off started chaotically with two creations so disastrous they seemed only fit for the bin.

Last night scientist Hassan, 30, from South Yorkshire, became the first to leave after his Swiss Roll fell into an oozing mass of sponge, chocolate and caramel.

"I've had a mare," he sighed, looking at the "horrible mess" before him, adding, "I've proper mucked it."

Judge Paul Hollywood said: "It looks like it fell out of a tree."
