Trump revokes Harvard's right to enrol foreign students

HARVARD University sued US President Donald Trump's administration yesterday over its move to block the prestigious university from enrolling and hosting foreign students in a broadening dispute, a court filing showed.

“It is the latest act by the government in clear retaliation for Harvard exercising its First Amendment rights to reject the government's demands to control Harvard’s governance, curriculum, and the ‘ideology’ of its faculty and students,” said the lawsuit filed in Massachusetts federal court

Trump’s administration revoked Harvard University’s ability to enrol foreign nationals, putting the future of thousands of students at risk, with China on Friday slamming the “politicisation” of educational exchanges.

The US administration’s decision on Thursday threatened the prestigious university with a huge financial blow. The school in Cambridge, Massachusetts quickly slammed the decision as “unlawful” and said it would hurt both the campus and the country, while one student said the community was “panicking”.
