Milestone anniversaries at Cape's prestigious Wynberg high schools

TWO of Cape Town's oldest and most respected schools, Wynberg Girls' High School and Wynberg Boys' High School, are celebrating milestone anniversaries this year - marking 141 and 184 years of history, tradition, and excellence.

Founded in 1884, Wynberg Girls' High School (WGHS) will commemorate its 141st anniversary with a special Founders' Day assembly on September 19. Just across the campus, Wynberg Boys' High School (WBHS), established in 1841, is reflecting on 184 years of shaping generations of young men.

Tradition and values At WGHS, principal Dr Jennifer Wallace said the school's motto, "Honour before honours", continues to guide its mission of developing confident, compassionate women. "'Honour' means living truthfully and treating others with dignity, while 'honours' refers to recognition and achievement.

Our motto prioritises character over accolades, emphasising that who you are matters more than what you achieve," Wallace said.
