Normal is New Formal

A sporadic column of unapologetic, unfiltered contemplations and ramblings from a tinkerer. Through raw experiences, sharp observations, and stitched-together memories, this space serves up candid takes on contemporary concerns-personal, imperfect, and forever in flux. Chime in to refine, challenge, and amplify. Not here to please; but to provoke, question, and spark a brighter, more meaningful conversation.

The recent buzz about a high-profile politician wearing a T-shirt in Parliament has got us thinking: Is this really a fuss or just a logical next step in India's very confusing history of 'appropriate' clothing? After all, the whole concept of dressing 'formally' is basically a for eign idea.
Let's take a trip down memory lane. The beloved kurta pyjama! decades ago, people actually whispered about this comfortable wear in homes as the 'night dress' or, worse, a 'sleeping suit.' In certain cases, people interpreted wearing a kurta-pyjama outside as the wearer being a bit low on cash and unable to afford pants.
But then, politics stepped in. Many discarded the churi daars of yore. For new Indian politicians, it became the official uniform and badge of honor, especially in states like Punjab. We also have to admit, back when pole antennas on roofs were common sight, we often saw more legislators across the Radcliffe line, wearing suits in their Parliament than our own Lawmakers did. Then, a decade plus ago, the famous Nehru Jacket started getting colourful, matching the Queen's colours!
