May 12 is celebrated as International Nurses Day all over the world. This day is dedicated to the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of nursing.
-
The Crimean War took place in Europe from 1854 to 1856. During this time, thousands of British soldiers were injured, for whose care a group of nurses was sent under the supervision of Florence. Florence's hard work day and night paid off, as a result of which the injured soldiers started recovering. She had an idea that if the soldiers did not get timely medical care, the soldiers would die of illness. She was so determined towards her goal that when the other nurses would fall asleep tired at night, she would carry a lamp (lantern) and inspect the soldiers' camps at night and inquire about their well-being. She has always guided nurses with her lamp (lantern) and high human qualities. Her high and pure spirit towards human service inspired people to serve, which has given rise to the nursing profession. The celebration of Nurses Day began in 1953, when an officer of the United States Department of Health, Education and Welfare took this commendable step at his own level, but his commendable step was ignored. In 1965, the International Council of Nurses celebrated Nurses Day for the first time. In 1974, the same organization officially approved the celebration of Florence Nightingale's birthday as Nurses Day and started distributing necessary equipment and a theme on this day to make people aware of the nursing profession, which is still popular in many countries today. Every year, some theme is kept on this day, which started in 1988 and is still valid today. The theme of the year 2025 is "Financial well-being of nurses strengthens the economy". The main objective is to focus on improving the well-being of the nursing community to achieve better financial well-being for the country. This theme is associated with the idea of paying attention to the health of nurses; it is also about equal pay for physical well-being and protecting their mental well-being. In the last few years,
