Chatsworth sees disturbing trend: increasing rape accusations against elderly men

Shireen Soobrathi

"In the last 10 months, I have dealt with 35 rape cases. Offenders are people from across the social spectrum, and all age groups. But towards the latter part of this year, I have seen more senior citizens being accused of rape.

“The victims vary from schoolgirls to middle-aged women. None of the victims were older women. Many of the accused are in a relationship.

“With the repeat offenders, the National Sex Offenders Register needs to be made public,” she added.

Soobrathi said DNA backlogs delayed many cases.
