ASHWIN Trikamjee was an extraordi- nary individual whose life and work profoundly impacted both the legal fra- ternity and the broader South African society.

Celebrating leadership, unity

As the president of the South African Hindu Maha Sabha (SAHMS), Trikam- jee presided over an organisation with more than 200 affiliates, embodying the ethos of unity in diversity while championing the timeless teachings of Hindu scripture.

Trikamjee served the South African community with distinction, and over decades made an indelible mark on many aspects of life in our country as a lawyer, acting judge, sports administra- tor, anti-apartheid activist, religious and community leader, and Hindu priest.

He served the democratic govern- ment at multiple levels, the most prom- inent being a member of the board of the SABC.

A stalwart advocate for unity and compassion

His unwavering commitment to serving humanity defined Trikamjee’s leader- ship. Steering an organisation as diverse as the SAHMS was no small feat, yet he accomplished this with grace, humility and a deep spiritual grounding.

His high emotional intelligence and dedication to Hindu dharma were evi- dent in every aspect of his work. Guided by compassion, wisdom and justice prin- ciples, he inspired those around him to embrace harmony and understanding in a multicultural society.

Beyond his presidential duties, Tri- kamjee was a practising Hindu priest, and his service spirit permeated his pro- fessional and personal life. His ability to balance his roles with dignity and deco- rum made him a beacon of inspiration for countless individuals.

An illustrious legal career spanning five decades

Professionally, Trikamjee was a titan in the legal world, with a career that spanned over 50 years.

As an executive consultant at Gar- licke and Bousfield, he specialised in commercial litigation and tax law, earning a reputation for his sharp legal acumen and unwavering dedication to justice.
