Firm fined £2k after worker fell from roof

A fledgling roofing company has been fined £2,000 after an apprentice sustained a number of serious injuries when he slipped and fell 15 feet to the ground.

BG Roofing Ltd had only been in business for a few months when an apprentice lost his footing as he cleaned a house roof and landed on garden decking.

The third year apprentice roofer was off work for three months after breaking his ankle, shattering his heel, and dislocating his shoulder.

The Methven-based company admitted breaching health and safety regulations and being responsible for the injuries sustained by the 20-year-old roofer.
