Upgrades at Mowbray hospital

|January 20, 2026
Mowbray Maternity Hospital has started a major two-year renovation to improve safety and comfort for mothers, babies and staff.
-
During this period, some services will temporarily change to ensure patient care remains uninterrupted.
“Your care remains our top priority,” said Jihaan Opperman, communication officer at the Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness.
“We are working closely with local clinics and midwife obstetric units to make sure mothers and babies continue to receive safe, high-quality care.”
WHERE TO GO FOR CARE
Women with low-risk pregnancies are advised to visit their nearest Basic Antenatal Clinic (Banc) or Midwife Obstetric Unit (MOU) for routine care. Walk-in patients will not be accommodated at Mowbray to ensure safety during construction.
