The name Ready D brings to mind legendary turntables, packed dance floors and nearly four decades of influence in the music industry.
Deon Daniels, better known as Grand Master Ready D, has been entertaining for the past 39 years and was formerly part of groups like Prophets of Da City and Brasse Vannie Kaap. Ready D was selected as one of 12 champions for the 16th edition of the Cape Town Carnival taking place in Green Point on Saturday 21 March.
Jay Douwes, Cape Town Carnival Chief Executive Officer, says the initiative celebrates individuals who are already making a difference and using their stories to inspire others through the carnival's sub-themes.
This year over 1 500 performers will showcase their talent under the theme "Follow Your HEART."
Daniels says being raised in a music-filled home ignited his passion for the art.
