Olympic hero Carlin calls time on his cycling career

Paisley cycling hero Jack Carlin has called time on his career after “giving his whole body” to the sport.

The 28-year-old announced his retirement yesterday, admitting that he couldn't “ignite the spark” in himself to try and reach another Olympics and called time on a career that has seen so much success.

Having claimed a team sprint silver and a sprint bronze in Paris last year, while also doing the same in Tokyo three years earlier; the home hero also amassed a trio of Commonwealth Games medals, winning gold in Birmingham and Gold Coast.

And with Glasgow 2026 closing in, he admits that there was a small incentive to keep going to compete in the games but felt it was the right time to pass the challenge onto a new generation.
