Scotland needs financial control

Last week, there was some discussion about GERS.

No, not the Glasgow southside football team that tries to rival the mighty Saints in the Premiership. It is the Government Expenditure and Revenue Scotland figures.

There is not as much talk as their used to be about these figures as they have been called out as not really detailing what is happening in Scotland and have no relevance of how Scotland would do as an independent nation as they only show what is happening in Scotland as part of the UK.

There is also a massive hole in the argument of using these figures. If they are positive, it can be argued that Scotland should be on its own as an independent nation.

If they are negative, it shows that Scotland is suffering under the arrangements of the UK with all the levers held at Westminster.

This is why it is not talked about as much as it used to be.
