Renfrewshire is set to hit the high notes with a ‘Dolly Day’ as local representatives seek to celebrate a musical icon’s work in early years literacy.

- EDEL KENEALY

Provost Lorraine Cameron and Councillor Jim Paterson will this month put forward a motion to declare a Dolly Day in recognition of the Tennessee legend Dolly Parton’s recent 80th birthday and her world-renowned Imagination Library.

The philanthropic initiative delivers a book to a child every month until their fifth birthday and is in operation in almost every council-run nursery in Renfrewshire.

Provost Cameron will put forward a motion at a meeting of the full council on February 26 which asks that the local authority formally declare an annual Dolly Day in honour of her 80th birthday and her outstanding contribution to literacy and early years development.

Historical works of Barts

THERE'S no delicate way to put this, so I'll just have to tell it as it is. Halfway through this programme, we watch a poor woman having her legs removed. And it's done while she's wide awake. But, as dreadful as this makes me sound, I have to say it doesn't upset me that much.
