A home to call their own is something that young people in Renfrewshire and across Scotland dream of.

Housing crisis is national shame

Housing crisis Thousands of families are living in temporary accommodation

Somewhere to relax after a hard day's work, or to raise a family and make memories in.

And somewhere to grow old in after your days of working are behind you.

Our homes-owned or rented, houses or flats - are such constant presences in our lives that sometimes we can take them for granted.

But data published by the Express lays bare the reality that many people are shockingly being denied this.

Readers may have read that Renfrewshire has been named as the third-worst place to live in socially rented accommodation in Scotland.

The title comes with figures showing that there were 4,455 reports of damp and mould in our council area in 2024.

More than a quarter of the reports come from houses and flats owned by Renfrewshire Council itself.
