Community can have a say on plans for battery storage plant

A major renewable energy company has revealed plans to create a new mass battery storage plant in Renfrewshire.
Lightsource BP has unveiled proposals to fund, develop, and operate a 400MW/2400MWh energy storage project on 67 acres of land at Houston Road, Freeland, in Erskine.
The project, which will consist of approximately 160 battery containers with a 40-year operational life, aims to integrate renewable energy into the grid, supporting low-cost electricity and enhancing the reliability of the electricity supply.
It comes just weeks after a similar proposal in East Renfrewshire gathered more than 300 objections.
Elected representatives ultimately approved the 40MW battery energy storage facility on an agricultural site at the east side of Glasgow Road in Eaglesham.
