Renfrew fell at the first hurdle in the West of Scotland League Cup.

- COLIN PATERSON

New Western Park hosted Saturday’s first-round clash with Premier Division rivals Kilwinning Rangers.

And it was the Buffs who advanced thanks to a 2-1 win.

In an eventful tie, Kilwinning took the lead in the 16th minute when Olly Smith looped home a header at the back post.

In the 34th minute, Renfrew were handed a golden chance to equalise when they were awarded a penalty.

Buffs ace Ryan Wilson saw red for deliberate handball but Cammy Kerr's spot-kick was saved by keeper Glen Cameron.
