Odisha marks Baji Rout's centenary

The quiet village of Neelakanthapur in Bhuban, Dhenkanal, was filled with pride and emotion Saturday as it marked the centenary celebration of Shaheed Baji Rout, India's youngest martyr.
The event brought together leaders, villagers, students, and descendants of freedom fighters to honour the 12-year-old boy whose courage became a symbol of India's freedom struggle.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi attended the ceremony and paid floral tribute to Baji Rout. He also inaugurated a sand art and photo exhibition showcasing the young martyr's life and sacrifice.
In his address, the Chief Minister recalled how, at just 12 years old, Baji Rout stood fearlessly before British soldiers and was shot dead for refusing to ferry them across the river.
“His bravery and sacrifice are not just memories of the past but living inspirations for generations to come,” Majhi said.
