Custodial death of UTP sparks outcry

Tension prevailed after an undertrial prisoner (UTP) in Rourkela Special Jail died under mysterious circumstances Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Rakesh Kujur, 45, of Dalki Dungaghat village under Raiboga police limits in Biramitrapur of Sundargarh district.
Police registered a case of unnatural death over a complaint lodged by the jail authorities and started an investigation.
The incident triggered a protest as the deceased's wife Amrita Kujur lodged a complaint with Raghunathpali police. She alleged that her husband was beaten to death in the custody. She demanded a high-level probe into the matter and justice for the bereaved family.
