Tree memorial would be 'inadequate' says attacks victim's mum

THE families of the victims of the Nottingham attacks are increasingly frustrated by a lack of progress on a memorial as the second anniversary of the tragedy approaches.

Nottingham City Council previously said it wanted to plant a tree in the Broad Marsh Green Heart as a tribute to victims Ian Coates, Barnaby Webber and Grace O’Malley-Kumar.

The 65-year-old school caretaker and the 19-year-old University of Nottingham students were killed by Valdo Calocane in a series of attacks in the early hours of June 13, 2023.

In a letter addressed to Emma and David Webber, parents of Barnaby, city council leader Councillor Neghat Khan said the authority remained committed to a “lasting memorial” but provided no further details.
