SIR Keir Starmer said it would not be sensible to “unravel” the UK’s trade deal with US - after he faced calls to stand up to Donald Trump.

Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey urged the Prime Minister to tell the US President that “any attempts to interfere with our democracy are totally unacceptable’, in relation to America’s new security strategy.

During the exchange at Prime Minister's Questions, Sir Keir said he wants a closer relationship with Europe but did not commit to rejoining the customs union.

It comes after a Liberal Democrat Bill which proposed to create a new UK-EU customs union was supported in the Commons on Tuesday.

Speaking on Wednesday, Sir Ed said: “President Trump's new national security strategy is a deeply alarming document.
