Record £2.5bn funding for nuclear fusion plant

A RECORD £2.5 billion of funding has been announced for a Nottinghamshire energy project that will “completely turn the area around”.

A new nuclear fusion energy plant - hoping to be the first of its kind in the world - is set to be built at the site of the former West Burton A power station near Retford.

The former Nottinghamshire power station was chosen by the Government for the new project in 2022. It says 10,000 jobs - ranging from construction to operations - will be created as a result of the project.

Students from local schools, universities and colleges will also be encouraged to get involved with the project “to ensure local people can access training,” the MP for Bassetlaw, Jo White, told the Post.
