Queues as new Wendy's opens doors in city

MORE than 50 burger fans queued up in eagerness for Wendy's to open its doors in Nottingham city centre. THE US chain's expansion across the UK includes the new site in Upper Parliament Street.

Everyone in the queue when the doors opened at 10.30am was rewarded with a free Wendy's Single burger.

But first in line was David King, who received loaded fries, nuggets and one of the iconic Frosty desserts too.

The 66-year-old, of Thorneywood, who had been waiting patiently since 7.45am, said: “I love fast food places.

I've never had Wendy's before. It's the best I've ever had. Bye bye McDonald's, hello Wendy's. I'll be a regular.”

Opening at the former home of Nottingham Building Society, it makes it a fast food triangle with Popeyes opposite and Jolibees on the corner.

The premises have been transformed with red and white decor and slogan artwork stating ‘Lunch is short, eat a Frosty first’ and ‘We don't cut corners’, a nod to the famous square burgers.

The 50-seater restaurant has a mix of booths, stools at the window looking out over the street, a big table for eight and smaller tables for two and four.
