Paterson sure goal difference can be factor

MARTIN Paterson does not want Notts County to ever let up in games as his team look for every advantage they can get in the League Two promotion race.

The Magpies boss was pleased to see his side maintain the pressure on the opposition goal right until the end of their 5-2 victory over Cheltenham Town on Saturday as they prepare for tonight's trip to face Oldham Athletic (7.45pm).

That result followed a 4-0 triumph away against Accrington Stanley in midweek, significantly boosting the Magpies goal difference and bringing it closer to the top three.

There were four different goal scorers at Accrington and five on Saturday, with the Magpies head coach encouraging the idea of spreading the goals across the team as they look to be a multilevel threat.

“It's excellent and that’s why we practice the way that we do,’ said Paterson.

“That's what we want, because we know goal difference could end up being a factor in where we finish with how tight it is.

“With that in mind, my message to the players is always to keep going and trying to score no matter the situation.
