It's time to stand up to the bully
Nottingham Post
|January 22, 2026
THERE is something uniquely grotesque about watching a thinskinned president attempt to bully allies while insisting he is the world’s greatest deal-maker.
Donald Trump’s latest crusade -trying to strong-arm Britain and Europe into backing his delusional fantasy of seizing Greenland - is not merely reckless, it is hollow, intellectually vacant, and driven by little more than wounded pride.
Trump’s message is brutally simple: comply or be punished. Support his Greenland land-grab or face tariffs, threats and public humiliation.
It is not diplomacy. It is blackmail, repackaged as “America First”.
The emptiness of Trump's argument is staggering. Greenland is not a property portfolio. It is not a bargaining chip. It is a place with people, laws and sovereignty.
Yet Trump speaks about it like a trophy asset, justifying his interest with a grab-bag of half-baked excuses - security, minerals, prestige - none of them coherent, all of them interchangeable.
The truth is simpler: he wants it, and he cannot stand being told no.
