RESEARCH STUDY INTO AMERICAN ASTHMA DRUG 'IMMEDIATELY SUSPENDED'
Medical Centre
RESEARCH has been suspended and an investigation launched after a patient using a trial drug died at a Nottingham hospital.
The asthma sufferer was being treated as part of a clinical trial for patients with moderate to severe cases of the condition and died on November 4 last year in intensive care at Queen's Medical Centre.
Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH), which runs the hospital, was one of the 42 medical centres across the world participating in an international trial of Areteia Therapeutics' dexpramipexole.
NUH has halted research and launched an investigation to ascertain whether the death may have been connected to the drug.
