How lout behaviour is being successfully tackled at district ‘hotspots’

MORE community protection patrols and school events have helped reduce antisocial behaviour in a ‘hotspot’ area by 40 per cent, a Newark councillor says.

Newark and Sherwood District Council said the Castle, Magnus and Devon wards had become ‘hotspots’ for antisocial behaviour.

Funding was given to the council by the Home Office to increase community protection officer and police patrols in these areas.

Extra patrols began in May and officers have now put in 107 hours on the beat, the council says.

Devon ward councillor Paul Taylor (Lab), the portfolio holder for public protection and community relations, said antisocial behaviour in his ward had reduced by 40 per cent.

“We are having a real effect,” he said.
