BUSINESS tycoons are among the richest people in the East Midlands as The Sunday Times reveals its 37th annual Rich List, with 2025's edition registering the biggest fall in the number of UK billionaires in the list’s history.
Sports Direct and Frasers Group CEO Mike Ashley has once again been named as the richest man in the region - and that's despite a drop of more than £600m.
Despite being from Walsall, the former Newcastle United owner qualifies for the list due to both of the businesses being based in Shirebrook, near Mansfield.
He records a wealth of £3.120 billion in 2025, down £679 million from his £3.8 billion fortune in 2024, and he is the 52nd richest man in the UK.
He opened his first sports shop in 1982, which he grew into a chain of more than 100 branches by 1990.
