Families failed by maternity services given chance to report staff

Face-to-face meetings are being held by the General Medical Council (GMC) and Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), who are responsible for regulating the conduct of doctors, midwives and nurses.

Both bodies have been accused of being “absent” during the unfolding maternity scandal by parents who have suffered harm and lost babies due to failings.

Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH), which runs the Queen's Medical Centre and City Hospital, is currently subject to the largest independent review in NHS history - and a police investigation following scores of baby deaths and injuries.

The GMC and NMC are holding drop-in sessions for families involved in the review in Nottingham on Tuesday, May 6, and Wednesday, May 14, which they call a chance for them to discuss concerns relating to clinicians involved in their care.

Kim Errington, whose son Teddy died at just one day old in 2020, has drawn up a list of staff in preparation for her meeting.
