A 70-YEAR-OLD building firm that employed more than 400 people has been formally shut down.

End of road two years after entering administration for building company

J Tomlinson Ltd, which had worked on large housing and Government projects from its Lilac Grove base in Beeston, appointed administrators on July 10, 2023.

The company, established in the 1950s, blamed inflation and long-term maintenance contracts which were “priced pre-Covid” for its downfall. After it was placed into administration, 367 staff were made redundant immediately, with 25 employees kept on to help administrators from advisory firm FRP try to recover money from the business.

However, the joint administrators of the company have now confirmed the business has been taken out of administration - when attempts are made to save the firm or return more money to creditors than if it was liquidation - and formally closed.

The 25 staff kept on have also been made redundant, a spokesperson for FRP confirmed.
