Decision to abolish crime commissioners ‘not a surprise’

NOTTINGHAMSHIRE'S police and crime commissioner (PCC) has spoken out after it was announced the role will be scrapped by the Government.

The elected officials were first introduced in 2012 with responsibilities to set budgets for police forces and appoint chief constables for their area, but the Home Secretary said fewer than 20 per cent of voters could name their PCC and that it had been a “failed experiment”.
