A “CONTROLLING and manipulative” man killed humself after murdering his wife at home in Newark, an inquest has found.

- By JOEL MOORE

Mark Simmons, 59, stabbed his wife, Rachel, 54, following years of controlling and coercive behaviour, Nottingham Coroner's Court heard on Friday.

One of the couple's daughters came back from work to find the traumatising aftermath in Blackbrook Road, on the morning of June 25 last year.

Mrs Simmons was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency services, while Mr Simmons died shortly after their arrival.

Evie Simmons, who was present for the hearing, described the horrific scene in a police statement read out in court.

"I noticed the garage door was open and I saw my dad lying on the floor surrounded by pools of blood," she said. "I shouted my mum but she didn't answer."
