Community centres 'in limbo'

LACK OF COMMUNICATION FROM COUNCIL HAS LEFT TRUSTEES FEARFUL FOR FUTURE
COMMUNITY centre managers say they have had “no communication whatsoever” from the city council as they remain uncertain about their future.
The Labour-run authority said it would start talks with its 35-strong community network on its future “imminently” - but some have not heard anything since.
Louise Holland, a trustee at the Sherwood Community Centre, said: “We just don’t know what's going on. We've had no communication whatsoever. It’s a very strange limbo situation to be in. We're just so busy at the moment, though that we haven't got the time to chase things up.”
The Post's Protect Nottingham Community Centres campaign was launched in January to call for a radical change in the council's approach.
The authority has provided a total subsidy of £600,000 a year to all its centres and now wants to end those payments as it battles multi-million-pound budget gaps.
