Community cash deal agreed for new homes

WORK can start on building homes on the site of the former Clipstone Collier, after the scheme's community contributions were finalised.

Warwick-based housing developer Harper Crewe first submitted plans to Newark and Sherwood District Council for more than 120 homes off Mansfield Road in May 2023.

However it took until last week for the development to gain planning approval.

In July last year, planning officers recommended that councillors should refuse the scheme due to problems with proposed parking and roads.

There was also concern the homes would be too close to the colliery's Grade Il-listed headstocks. Added pressure on local health and education services was also cited as a reason for refusal.
