OWNERS SAY IT IS A 'HUGE UNDERTAKING' FOR LITTLE FINANCIAL GAIN

- By LYNETTE PINCHESS

THE owners of a bistro have pulled the plug on serving Christmas Day dinner after receiving online abuse over the price.

The trouble started after No.58 Bistro in Long Eaton announced its menu for December 25. The three-course meal with a choice of options, including unlimited drinks, was priced at £99 for adults and children over the age of ten, and £65 for under tens.

Grant Shelton, who runs the bistro in Fletcher Street with partner Nichola Anderson, said of the 40 available places, 28 people were wanting to book and he had been confident that he could have filled the rest.

Diners could have had prawn and smoked salmon rocket salad, roast turkey with all the trimmings and Christmas pudding with bottomless Prosecco, wine, beer, cider and soft drinks.

But "after a lot of thought," he said they were scrapping the idea. Mr Shelton said: "It was simply the right decision for us at this moment in time. Christmas Day service is a huge undertaking, and after reviewing everything, we felt it made more sense to step back this year.

"We were saddened by some of the comments made, but it became clear that most of the people making them had no intention of booking anyway. There's no drama behind it - it is what it is.
