Airport will help to choose demolition day

COOLING TOWERS AT FORMER POWER STATION WILL COME DOWN AT A TIME TO AVOID DELAYS
OFFICIALS at East Midlands Airport will help to "pick the right time" for the cooling towers to be demolished at the nearby Ratcliffe-on-Soar Power Station so flights are unaffected.
The airport's boss said they want to ensure the safety of flights arriving and departing are not compromised when the eight colossal towers eventually come down.
The last unit at the power station was officially closed down on September 30, 2024, after 57 years of power generation. Around 120 staff remain on the site to help with the decommissioning process - which is set to take around two years overall.
A key element of the decommissioning process will be the demolition of the cooling towers, which all stand at a height of 114 metres. The walls of each tower are seven inches thick and constructed from reinforced draught concrete.
