RUSHCLIFFE RESIDENTS DIVIDED OVER VALUE OF NEW RECYCLING SERVICE
GREEN, black, brown, blue... and now purple. It's the latest colour of the rainbow to adorn the dustbins of Rushcliffe Borough - but it's not without controversy.
The 180-litre containers are being rolled out across the area for the collection of glass. Some people, though, don't want them.
"If somebody came and stole mine, I couldn't care less," says RAF veteran and retired council worker Norman Blake, in Bingham. "I never asked for it. I'm not making any more space in the garage for it. I've got three bins already. How many more do they want?"
Mr Blake's bin, complete with its golden council logo, is sat outside the front of his property. He hasn't moved it since it was delivered.
"It'd take me years to fill that thing up," adds the 86-year-old. "My daughter who lives in Newton doesn't want hers either, so she's told the council not to bring her one, and she'll put her glass in mine.
"For me, it's a waste of money. How much does it cost to put one of those bins at every house? If they've got that sort of money to spend they should put council tax down."
