CAMPAIGNERS have cautiously welcomed news the company behind a mammoth solar farm development in North Devon have placed the project on hold.
Members of Devon’s Campaign for the Protection of Rural England (CPRE) say the company behind plans for the Beacon Solar project, near Holsworthy, has withdrawn from the Planning Inspectorate’s pre-application service for Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs) and placed consultation on hold.
In a letter to the inspectorate Beacon Solar’s project director Rob Paul says: “Following the collection of environmental and technical data over the last 18 months, the proposed Beacon Solar farm is undergoing further assessment in terms of its layout, scale, and detailed design. While this process is ongoing, there will be a pause to the consultation process and as such we wish to withdraw the project from the NSIP process.
