Extra China capacity hurts Indian private investments

The surplus manufacturing capacity in China is a major factor behind the subdued investments by the Indian industry, said Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) president Sanjiv Puri.

According to Puri, the Chinese overcapacity is a headwind for India, regardless of whether the surplus stock is dumped in India or other countries. "If they dump stock overseas, then we cannot export. And when it comes to dumping in India, it affects us directly," said Puri, also chairman and managing director of packaged consumer goods maker ITC Ltd.
